The ToFuel consortium unites 11 partners from multiple European countries, bringing together expertise from biotechnology, chemical engineering, renewable fuel production, sustainability assessment, process engineering, and communication and exploitation to cover the full value chain from agricultural residues to Sustainable Aviation Fuel deployment.

Project coordinator responsible for overall management, data and innovation management, integration of technical activities across the consortium, and leading work on water management and lipid and oil purification.

Develops biomass fractionation, extrusion, hydrothermal liquefaction and algae-based carbon capture processes.

Develops and optimises microbial fermentation processes for lipid production from tomato residues.

Contributes to process modelling and simulation of the integrated biorefinery, including mass and energy balances and cost calculations at the system level.

Oversees pre-industrial validation and scale-up of key technologies to TRL 5.

Responsible for the conversion of lipids and bio-oil into Sustainable Aviation Fuel via the HEFA route.

Leads communication, stakeholder engagement and exploitation strategy development.

Supports process optimisation, contributes to technical development within the biorefinery concept, and leads prospective life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC) activities.
