The ToFuel Horizon Europe project has published the first edition of its official newsletter, marking another important milestone in the project's communication and dissemination activities.
Coordinated by the European Sustainable Energy Innovation Alliance - ESEIA and EEIP, leaders of Work Package 7 – Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation, the inaugural newsletter provides stakeholders with a comprehensive overview of the project's latest developments, research progress and communication activities during the first months of implementation.
The first edition introduces the project's mission to transform tomato processing residues into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and other high-value bio-based products through an integrated biorefinery approach. Readers can discover the project's objectives, partnership and the innovative technologies being developed to support Europe's transition towards a more sustainable aviation sector.
The newsletter also highlights the first research achievements from WP2 – Upstream – Seed Pressing, Extrusion, Hydrothermal Liquefaction and Algae and WP3 – Midstream – Fermentation and Lipid Extraction. Early results demonstrate promising progress in the valorisation of tomato processing residues, including the successful production of high-quality tomato seed oil rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids and advances in producing microbial lipids from tomato-derived feedstocks.
In addition, the publication showcases the project's participation at EUBCE 2026 – the 34th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition in The Hague, where ToFuel was presented during a dedicated Mission Innovation session on integrated biorefineries, contributing to knowledge exchange and collaboration within the European bioeconomy community.
The newsletter also presents the newly developed ToFuel Communication Toolkit, coordinated by ESEIA and EEIP, which provides project partners with a coherent set of dissemination materials—including the project presentation, flyer, conference poster and press release—to ensure consistent communication throughout the project's lifetime.
As the project progresses, the newsletter will serve as a regular communication channel, keeping researchers, industry representatives, policymakers and other stakeholders informed about scientific achievements, project milestones, events and opportunities for collaboration.
Stay connected with ToFuel and follow our journey towards developing innovative circular solutions that transform tomato residues into Sustainable Aviation Fuel and other valuable bio-based products.
